Just a couple Garmin posts to get you caught up on some of the runs.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Happy New Year Everyone! I hope you all had a great night that was fun and safe. Also I hope you all were capable of getting up and either racing or running…heck for some of you, who might have had too much fun last night, just getting up was probably an accomplishment.
We had a beautiful afternoon for a long run today. I also got to test out my new Mizuno Wave Creations which felt awsome!!
Our run started off with sunshine and low 40’s but we picked it up a bit towards the end as the wind picked up and the temp dropped sharply. By the time we finished it was 30’s and starting to snow…it was spring for about 3 hours today ;-/
Also for those of you who are a little unfamiliar with the Garmin Plugin that I’m posting…if you click on the name of the run “Hudson Mills 14.0” it will actually bring up the run details. Enjoy!!
Hard and Soft of It All
Today we had a nice hard workout…I think coach was hoping it was a little harder but we did a 4 x Mile 4:48, 4:43, 4:41, 4:29 then a little leg turnover with 3x200m at 29, 27, 27. Here is where the Soft of it all came into play.
This is probably one of the slowest cool downs I have ever done in my life 🙂
I Ate Too much Holiday Hustle
Had a nice run around the lake today with Justin and Corey. The roads were covered in snow with a nice under layer of ice and a pretty solid breeze on some sections. This is such a nice loop…you only pass about 5 cars, 6 deer, and a few horses. Come check it out sometime.
Relaxing Run
Today was a nice and relaxing run with my bro. Which was well deserved after coach killed me yesterday by having us do a 4 mile tempo run 5:11, 5:04, 4:54, 4:48 =20:00 then I jumped over about 120 hurdles.
First Indoor Race
Well last Sunday we had our EMU inter squad meet and all of us boys ran the 3000M. It was a pretty relaxed venue and I feel like most of us took it as another hard day at practice. No one really battled for a position or ran until they were ready to collapse but we at least were reminded of butterflies in the stomach and also of what the gun sounds like. All thou my 2nd place finish and time of 8:29 was nothing to get to excited about, it was the fastest 3k that I have ran in about 3-4 years. I guess it’s still safe to say that I am moving in the right direction…Now I just need to get 10 seconds faster and put 35 barriers to jump over with some water as well…then I’ll be right on target.
Garmin
Ok my wonderful wife got me a sweet Garmin watch for my birthday a few weeks back so I am finally learning how to use it. So we are now going to see if I can link it properly with this website and Facebook. The data that this thing brings is awesome. I still have to get the heart rate monitor set up…but that is another battle. So this should be a Saturday long run from the 11th of December called Super Gallup.
Goals
No matter what level of runner or of anything that it is that you do, you have to have goals. I have always had goals with my life and with running. I feel that goals help keep us on track. I remember writing my first goal sheet back in Jr. High, which I still have, I also got a Snickers bar for filling it out 😉 But they were all end game goals.
We all say “I want to be X or do X” but what we always fail to do is look at the ladder i.e. how many steps are there to get to my goal. In my former life as a financial planner I always had people say they want to retire at 55…never once thought about how much money they would need at age 25, 35, 45 to make sure they reached their goals by 55.
So if I am to have a goal of claiming an American record in the steeplechase, which is a pretty lofty goal, and I fail at attaining that goal but I hit several of the steps on the way to it, I would then still have a pretty successful career as a chaser.
So here is my ladder, the top USA times in the Steeplechase of all time.
